Our First Meeting
The first meeting of the IVY League Chorus was held straight after the chorus competition at convention and led by Mel Lane with boundless enthusiasm. It was well attended by the YOUTH of our organisation, many of whom were already sporting their Ivy League t-shirts. There was an atmosphere of excitement as the girls were introduced to key players in the chorus including section leaders, Beth Greenfield, Bass, Katie Phillips, Baritone, Ali Moore, lead and Emma McManus, tenor.
The room held an air of expectation of great things to come. After the introductions they got straight into the spirit of singing together when Mel taught the tag ‘Close Your Eyes and Sleep’ and gave us a true taste of what’s in store.
Joe, Duncan, Alan and Steve from the BABS youth chorus came along and told of their experiences and what a buzz they get out of singing with people of their own age (not that they have anything against the oldies really!). Mel and her team were ceaseless all weekend in drumming up support, selling t-shirts, badges and hoodies to raise funds and reminding all LABBS Choruses about the request for sponsorship which has been sent out to all clubs.
The official launch of the ‘IVY League Chorus’ will be at LABBS Harmony College next year, 13th – 15th April in Loughborough, but before that, there will be a taster session on Sunday 4th Feb in Birmingham. This will be a joint day with the BABS Youth Chorus, the choruses will have separate rehearsals but share expertise and perform for each other at the end of the day. It is hoped that the two choruses will continue to work together closely in the future. Anyone interested in attending the taster day or becoming a member, please contact Mel Lane on youthchorus@labbs.org.uk
