Reviews of LABBS Harmony College

Catrina's Review:

Harmony College 2007 had finally arrived. After circling the Loughborough campus in the car several times trying to find the car park, we eventually found our way to the registration point and our room. The weekend started with some singing (obviously) by myself and some of my chorus We were soon joined by several very eager IVY Leaguers - all squashed in one of the tiny bedrooms. The evening then started in earnest, (after a very VERY yummy all you can eat dinner) with a key note speech by Joe Hunter and John Ward, our American friends, who had come over for the weekend. They gave a short talk about finding a medium between keeping barbershop's traditional elements and making it more relevant to outsiders so that they want to join too. Saturday morning (bright and early ARGH) we turned up to breakfast bleary eyed but raring for the day ahead. Water bottles filled, we set of eager to start rehearsing for what was to be our SECOND IVY League meeting. We worked on 'Locomotion' and 'Lean on Me' and also finally got to sing through 'Fame' properly, at which point Paula, who was listening in, became very excited and got the arranger on the phone! Paula offered to give a few of us the chance to direct, which I jumped at! Hermonine Granger style I shot my hand in the air and I was not disappointed, the MD coaching was brill and not that scary as everyone's faces were beaming back at me. After tea we had to find our last class, which for me was 'MC-ing'. Happily Anita remembered me from last time and said I was a fool, (I think she was right!) for coming back! Sadly the day came to an end all too soon, however this meant it was back to the bar. Some of us got together to form a quartet in a quiet corner which was definitely fun and even sounded pretty good for a first time singing together! We staggered home pretty late, trying not to get lost on campus in the dark. The next day everyone was flagging but by the time the concert approached there was an air of excitement all around. The IVY League started the concert off, and what a show we gave! The audience were in tears in 'Lean on Me' and on the edge of their seats with huge beams on their faces in 'Locomotion', we even got a standing ovation, and what better way to end a first performance! The IVY League can only go on up to success after success and I am so happy to be a part of it all:)

Camella's Review:

Wow! What an amazing weekend, being part of my new barbershop family. I thought it was so nice how everyone wanted to help us improve, and having a standing ovation was over-whelming. It was great to get to know everyone a little better, making new friends, learning about their own experiences in barbershop, even trying new things (well done to the people who directed the chorus, Fantastic!). It was also great to learn new skills, especially how to stand properly, thanks Nicky!

I also thought it was incredible how everyone had learnt Fame so fast, I think it will be brilliant when we perform it. Everyone tried so hard with all the songs; I sang them so much I couldn’t get them out of my head! (Not complaining though)

I had such an amazing weekend that I didn’t want it to end. I can’t wait now ‘til we meet again in June and also learning the new song with the boys.
